After 60 years of weathering many storms, Evinrude has seen a lot of innovation and ingenuity. Our E-TEC two-stroke direct injection technology is the embodiment of this revolution. Honoured as an “Innovation of the Year” when it was launched in 2003, this technology is now found in more than 40 outboard engine models from 15 hp to 300 hp. It has many unique features: 80% lower CO emissions than an idling four-stroke engine uses 50% less oil than a conventional direct-injection outboard engine (and 75% less than a conventional two-stroke) *quiet operation *low maintenance *low maintaince costs *superior durability Engines using E-TEC technology have received the Clean Air Technology Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They meet and even surpass the emission standards of the EPA, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and the European Union. These engines are the first since 1976 to be allowed to operate on Lake Bodensee (Lake Constance), one of the world’s most sensitive and protected ecosystems.
